Introduction[]
You gaze at the companions around you, the men and women who've been flung into hell while still alive. Because of you. One mad, momentary decision brought you all here. Now they have to pay the price for your folly or courage.
Most of all, your eyes dwell on Tessa Tullian. She came to you in East Kruna because of your family name and your reputation, the mantle of the Kasans and all the things you've achieved under that banner. But such pragmatic things were soon overlaid by finer ones. She gave you her trust, her loyalty, and her friendship. And this is how you've repaid her.
You move to her side, desperate to speak, to beg her forgiveness, to say inadequate words to a woman whose soul faces damnation because of you. But the others are close by.
You're still watching her face, trying to read her thoughts in its signs, when she notches an arrow to her bow and fires.
Further down the path, a two-headed demon howls from one pierced eyeball-head. His other half points at the wound and sniggers -- until a second arrow penetrates its head in turn.
Conclusion[]
She's some distance from the other when you approach her, pulling an arrow out of a demon's throat.
"Tessa..." you say. "I'm..."
"I know," she replies. "But what's done is done."
She slips the arrow into her quiver, alongside her other brightly-fletched shafts, and begins to walk towards the others. But she pauses.
"And you'd have done the same if it had been me they took instead of him."
"If we don't make it back..."
"Then you'll have an eternity of damnation to apologize in, and I'll have an eternity to kick you."
